First world photography problems.
The first thing I planned on doing when I came back from my backpacking trip around Europe was to make a book. Compile all my favorite images and little side notes, basically a scrapbook to share with you guys. That was my traveling goal.
Needless to say, here I am weeks later not able to do so. Why? Realistically, it just costs too much money. Either way I swing it, I feel pretty shitty about it. For me to even make a profit, or, getting the money back from making the book(s) (along with a profit) I would have to charge a ridiculous amount per book, and for me that’s completely unfair to you guys, well the people who’d actually buy my photography book. I figured, okay, i’ll make a small one, but even then the cost would still seem like robbery as the customer.
Then the idea of shopping around for a publisher got brought up. But even if i did that, i’d still have to put in over $500 getting the books made, mail them to publishers, and more than likely get none of them back. It’s a hit or miss. I don’t know, it sucks major ball sacks at the moment. I don’t want to do a kickstarter page because i know you guys are awesome followers and would donate, and then if it got funded, got my books made, and the same people who donated bought my book, they’d basically be paying twice for something. AND I FEEL AWFUL ABOUT THAT. I’m not meant to be a business head with a grade school teacher moral compass.
I figured, i’m just going to make my own photography book. Four actually. London, Italy, Transportation (planes,trains,buses,ect), and one for all my dog pictures. It’s more than likely going to take me over a year to complete, i’ll probably cry/whine/hate every moment of doing an individual book, none of them will look the same, and I don’t know how many copies I can bare to make to sell. But, i want to put something out for you all, especially my followers who’ve followed me for years and have supported my photography.
So i just want you to know, i’m going to make a probably super shitty picture book, sell it for cheap, it will more than likely have tears on it, and i’m doing it for you. And my grandma for Christmas. I hope that’s okay.
