My future kids won’t have the internet as a nanny.
they’ll have to go outside, play, join sports, ballet, art classes, karate, pottery, girl scouts, whatever activity that makes him or her happy - outside of the world wide web.
I’m seeing 8th graders having a blogging site and I think back, I know I’m not THAT old, but when I was in middle school I was outside for a good part of the day. I hardly ever wanted to stay in, and the last thing I wanted to do was sit in front of a computer.
Giving a computer to a kid that young won’t replace having a nanny or parental figure. Yeah they’ll stay in their room, won’t nag you, or probably care if you’re in the house or not. But I want my kid to experience things outside of the internet, you know - LIFE experiences you can’t Google. I don’t want to worry about who they’re chatting with, what pictures they’re posting up or what cyber creep is out to hunt them down.
I want my child to join school clubs, not myspace.
